Visit to St Lazarus Chapel

On the 7th of April we visited the St Lazarus Chapel. We went with our teachers (Dulcídia and Maria dos Anjos) and with Catarina. In the Chapel, waiting for us, was Mrs Maria José, the Chapel’s overseer, that told us a little of the Chapel’s history. The Chapel was founded in 1520. During several years was called St Daisy’s Chapel. Francisco’s mother was there too and she told us some of St Lazarus traditions. St Lazarus is the protector of smallpox, animals and leprosy. We made prayers and sang some songs. Next Sunday it is celebrated the St Lazarus festivity. There are some typical desserts called “Bexigas” and “Cavacórios.” When we left the Chapel Francisco’s mother gave us some of these typical desserts. We enjoyed a lot going to the St Lazarus Chapel!

  1. Isto não é para todos! Estão de Parabéns mais uma vez. Estes meninos não param de surpreender. Juntaram as tradições locais com a aula de Inglês e o resultado foi interessantíssimo e muito proveitoso. Bem hajam professoras!
